About me

I'm David Pavlas, a linguist with a true passion for language. I've been working as a translator, editor and subtitler for three years and decided to go freelance in October 2024.

 

I had already decided to dedicate my life to language and literature during my childhood, which I spent in Slovenia. Early on, I had begun to learn German, which has accompanied and amazed me every day since. My first steps in English followed soon after. The love for foreign languages and cultures I had developed led me to a secondary education in the hospitality industry, and after that to a dual Bachelor's degree in German and English Studies at the University of Maribor (Slovenia).

Initially, I wanted to become a teacher, but I soon realised this approach to working with foreign languages was much too theoretical for me. Thus, I decided to enrol in the Master's programme in Translation at the University of Graz (Austria) in 2022. Ever since, I've been living, studying and working in the capital of Austrian Styria.

 

When I'm not concerning myself with matters of language, I like to listen to music, read a good book, go to the theatre or get on stage myself, expand my knowledge on history or add to my vinyl collection.
